Prairie Childhood
Our new stencil designs are suitable for rollers shades, unlike applique which adds too much thickness, and they also look great on traditional yardage. Prices for stenciling on bedding may vary - please contact us.
Children seem to need privacy and shade or filtered light even more than grown-ups. Light linen curtains and cotton shades together can shadow a room quite well enough for privacy or a nice nap. If the light tends to be bright, light blocking shades or lined curtains may be needed. We do not recommend Roman shades or any treatment with long cords for small children....roller shades and simple curtains are safest.
As for appearance, the turn of the century was a golden era for children. Some of the loveliest illustration was being made for them and that translated in charming murals and stencils and an array of special designs just for them. Colors were muted and soothing and bedrooms and playrooms were meant to be retreats, full of toys and books.
Many of our standard applique and stencil designs are very suitable for children, but we’re adding some new but old fashioned motifs just for them as well.
Please look at our new applique designs - below. These design are large enough for appliqued Arts & Crafts bedding and embroidered pillows as well as curtains.
We can also do custom painted shades. These are not stenciled, but hand painted...a work of art! No shade is ever exactly like another, so these work best for a single window or with different subject matter on each one. R for Rabbit at far left (yes, we like rabbits) on muslin cotton and Train at near left on dove cotton. Please contact us for pricing for these.
Browse our standard stencil designs as well. The Three Square & Four Square can make nicely colored blocks and others, like the Sailboat border & the Sunflower among othersare very suitable for children.
